In an opaque pot you only see the surface. By the time you notice rot, it is late. A clear pot is a surveillance camera for roots and moisture, and it only works with a structured substrate: pon, perlite, never 100% soil. Manon (@plantidote_) on how she uses hers. The Mineral Substrates Welcome Bundle is that setup: clear self-watering pots, fine and chunky SYBAStones (pumice, lava, zeolite) and a slow-release feed.
Upload a photo of your plant. SYBAScan tells you which mix it needs. Free, and it takes seconds.

A little dust forms during transport. Give the mix a rinse and it is ready to go.
Wash all the old soil off the roots and plant into the self-watering pot. We email you the full method after your order.
Let the wick do the work. When the reservoir is empty, leave it a day or two so the roots get air, then refill.
The pot in this image uses a rope wick. Some of our pots work without one: a built-in part of the pot reaches down into the reservoir and pulls the water up through the stones. Rope or pot structure, the result is the same.

"I have already purchased twice from Sybotanica in the last couple of weeks. I was so impressed with the quality of the soil mixes and how well the plants were doing."
Diarmuid Dunne, Ireland · Trustpilot"I ordered at Sybotanica for the third time. The quality is perfect! There was a problem with some products, but the support answered really quick and helped me out without hesitation."
Pakashi, Germany · Trustpilot"Really loved that I could order customised soil for every kind of plant I own. My order was sent rapidly with a little personalised note. Will order again!"
Anaïs Snijkers, Belgium · TrustpilotSemi-hydro means growing your plant in a mineral substrate instead of soil, with a water reservoir underneath. The stones pull water up to the roots, and you only refill when the reservoir is empty.
There is nothing organic in the pot, so nothing to compact, rot or breed fungus gnats.
SYBAStones
SYBAStones is not soil. It is a mineral substrate: a blend of pumice, zeolite and lava rock that gives roots air, water and grip without breaking down. There is nothing organic in the pot to compact or rot, so the structure stays open for years. It is also reusable: rinse the stones and they are ready for the next plant.
Fill the reservoir of the self-watering pot and let the wick do the work. Let the reservoir run empty for a day or two before you refill, so the roots get air.
Rinse the stones, take all the old soil off the roots and plant into a self-watering pot. Growing on SYBAStones works differently from soil, so we send you a step-by-step email right after your order with the full method.
Fungus gnats lay their eggs in organic material. There is none in SYBAStones: it is lava rock, pumice and zeolite, so there is nothing for them to breed in. The one thing that matters is the switch itself: wash every last bit of old soil off the roots, because that is where any existing eggs are.
