Description

This SYBASoil mix can contain live worms!

How to Use the Hoya Soil Mix

Using the mix is easy! Start with removing as much of the old soil as possible. Gently squeeze the pot while holding it sideways to loosen up the plant. Run the roots under lukewarm tap water to remove the last pieces and bits.

Also, make sure to remove any dead foliage that may still be on the plant using scissors. Now your plant is ready for its fresh Hoya soil. Add a small layer of Hoya mix at the bottom of the pot.

Place the plant in the pot, and slowly add Hoya soil to the sides to fill it up. Make sure that the point where the roots meet the plant is just buried under the Hoya soil.

Lightly pat the Hoya mix down into the pot. Make sure to water the Hoya mix thoroughly after repotting, as this helps settle the mix and roots down.

Why the Hoya Mix Works

This hoya mix contains everything your Hoya could be asking for. The added activated carbon helps prevent root-rot-related issues. There is lots of orchid bark & coco husk to support space & aeration for the larger roots. The mix drains relatively quickly as Hoyas prefer to be left to dry between watering.

The Original Habitat of the Hoya Plants

Hoya’s originate from tropical Asia, the Pacific Islands and Australia. They are usually trailing or climbing vines and are epiphytic, meaning they can grow out of the soil on surfaces like trees & rocks. They are comparable to aroid care, except the hoya mix can dry out more often in between watering.

How to Care for Hoya Plants

Hoya’s thrive on bright, indirect sunlight and can be left to dry for quite a bit. Similar to succulents, you can check to see if a hoya is thirsty by feeling the leaves. If they are not as plump as before they are probably thirsty and can use a drink.

🌿 Suitable for organic farming under Dutch law*

Our worm compost falls under category B and is permitted for use in organic farming and horticulture under Dutch law.

However, SYBASoil cannot be certified as organic potting soil because we use this worm compost. Certification would require sterilisation — and we consciously choose not to do that.

Sterilisation would destroy all beneficial microfauna. And that’s exactly what makes our soil so powerful: a bioactive mix full of life, helping your plants grow healthy and happy.

Fair Production - Handmade in our social workplace

At Sybotanica we not only want to make plants happy, but people happy as well. In our production team we exclusively hire people with a distance from the workforce, and help them rehabilitate to the normal working life.

          Take Peter for example:

Peter has been with Sybotanica since the 1st hour, and has now been promoted to head of production & a permanent contract! Where he was the first employee, he now manages a team of 3 production workers.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Peter achieved all this with only 10% visibility! 🕶️ With a few minor adjustments to his working environment, Peter is able to perform his job 100%.

Peter has now been through two moves and knows all the ins & outs of Sybotanica. He can even feel by the potting soil which variety it is. That's quite a challenge with 16 different mixes!

We are confident that Peter will keep production running smoothly in the coming years too! 💪

                  FAQ's

Not sure if the Hoya Mix is right for your plant?

How much Hoya Mix do I need?

Check out this pot volume calculator tool to calculate how much Hoya Mix you need.

When do I need to re-feed the soil?

The nutrients in SYBASoil will run out in ~6 months on average.

Check out our fertiliser line SYBASupport.

How long does SYBASoil stay fresh?

You can store SYBASoil for about 2 years. Make sure to store it cool, dark and closed off. The effectiveness of the nutrients can degrade over the years. Simply add some fresh worm castings to give the soil new life.

When do I repot the plant?

We recommend repotting once any of these things happen:
                  - You see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot
                  - The soil dries very quickly between watering
                  - The plant is top-heavy and wants to fall over
                  - Roots are pushing the plant up and out of the container
                  - Every 1 to 2 years

                  How to recycle SYBASoil packaging

Our packaging can be recycled at your local plastic recycling facility.

You can also re-use it for storage, or leave a little soil and use it as a propagation box!

How to water plants grown on the Hoya Mix

Water the soil only when the top 2-3cm of the soil is dried out. You can test this out by poking your finger in the soil to feel around.

It is fine to let it dry out a bit more sometimes if you forget it as the deeper soil will retain moisture for longer. This will also help the roots to grow deeper.

What if my plant is not doing well after using the soil?

We guarantee a 100% satisfaction! Our mission is to help you get happy plants.

If for some reason we fail to do this, just check out our help center or return your items hassle-free within 90 days.

Best Soil for Hoyas My hoyas have not been growing at all or have grown very slowly for 2 years. After repotting them in Syba Soil, I could see the different after 2 weeks. All hoyas in my collection had new growth and new tendrils. The soil works well for planting/repotting, as well as propagation. It's very light, chunky and smells so good, like a forest.

I've mixed it with some of the Calathea soil as this Hoya mix is really chunky and I've found that Hoya do grow better when the soil retains a bit of moisture. My Hoya Incrassata is pushing out 2 baby leaves 😁
